A Wedding

She gazed at herself one final time in the mirror, her beauty taking the breath away. Clad in a pink gown, adorned with a glittering necklace and elegant long earrings, her smile illuminated the joy within her soul. The occasion? Her wedding day.

Eight years had elapsed since they first met, a memory she held dear. The office cafeteria, rain pouring outside, and an exchanged glance – those glances soon bloomed into smiles, paving the way for conversations. Their similarities were abundant – a shared love for fun, a carefree spirit, an appetite for adventure, a passion for travel, and above all, a harmonious concept of love.

It was during their frequent road trips that they realized there was something more than just friendship between them. It was a cold winter night in Dehradun. They were sitting on the logs next to the campfire. The night was dark, and the cold breeze, along with the calmness of the landscape, made the atmosphere romantic. She was staring at the stars above while inhaling the pristine air. The warmth of the fire, combined with the peace of her mind, made her ecstatic. "I think I have fallen in love with you," came a whisper. "Me too!" was the immediate reply. She held the hand next to her and just smiled. Her heart was racing, and the grin on her face said it all. She was in love; they were in love!

They chose to conceal their relationship until certainty dawned upon them. Their decision to reveal their connection to the world rested upon their absolute conviction. Then came the question of families. She was apprehensive about revealing the truth to her own kin, though it was a conversation that had to transpire. Their relationship flourished daily, their affection growing stronger. From brief chats to movie nights, extensive conversations to hand-in-hand walks, every moment between them was a display of pure and untainted love.

"It is time we talked to our families. I cannot live in fear of rejection, nor do I want to live without you." She said affirmatively. "Are you sure about doing this?" a question arose. "Yes! I was never so sure of myself, of us, and of the life that we have planned to live together". Her confidence was met with a smile.

Nonetheless, her determination faced staunch disapproval. Her parents vehemently opposed her choice, leading to intense arguments, emotional turmoil, and heated discussions. Societal pressure coupled with familial discord added to their challenges. Yet, she stood steadfast. After weeks of persuasion, her parents finally acquiesced. They said yes! Relief washed over the enamoured couple. The meticulous planning for the big day commenced. From selecting the ideal venue and compiling the guest list to curating the menu and orchestrating the decor, no stone was left unturned in realizing their dream wedding.

Finally, the awaited day arrived – the wedding day. The venue was adorned extravagantly, from the floor to the rafters. Floral arrangements, ornate furniture, statues of revered deities, flickering candles, elegant chandeliers, vibrant fabrics – all came together to create a scene of opulence. Guests gathered, anticipation hanging thick in the air, as they awaited the entrance of the radiant bride. She walked in, her grace accentuated by her companions – sisters, cousins, and friends. With each step, her confidence emanated alongside her smile. This was her moment – the culmination of years of love and longing, a new beginning with her soulmate.

Their eyes met each other’s, and the joy in their hearts was profuse. Hand in hand, they sat next to each other as the rituals began. She took a deep breath to soak in the moment—the moment when she was finally marrying Her!

As the sun dipped below the horizon, their love story unfolded against the backdrop of a setting sun – a love that conquered all challenges.
